Dear you, I think of you every time I build my nerve up to approach a stranger and ask to take their photo. Do you remember we were out "on safari" and the man in sunglasses came trucking down the side of the street with his cross on wheels? You went up to ask if we could take his picture, and the random man walking just behind him on the sidewalk turned out to not be so random, and without words took a very protective stance as if to guard the man bearing the cross? Do you still wonder about that moment sometimes? A snippet from a story we'll never get to read? Never know the beginning of, or the conclusion to? Just this odd snippet. The smiling man with his cross to bear, and his guardian- companion making sure he could continue. Thank you for the lessons on being brave. Love, Me
Dear you, I know you taught me to braver, and to talk to strangers...but I think you taught me equally useful skills such as lurking like a spy and waiting for a perfect shot. I love the sort of Edward Hopper-ish vibe, yes? Love, Me
Confessions... I do love me some juicy confessions.
In Buenos Aires , from the back of a cab, I saw these Gossip Girls just kicking back, & getting into it against a ragged brick wall. The moment was perfection, and I fell in absolute love. The R. Crum jeans, the platform boots and the cool urban scowls? The way the one girl absently scopes a stranger passing by? With its grime and its aging ironwork painted over and over again through the decades, B.A. is reminding me of European decay and old Manhattan from 30 years ago. Wouldn't it be fun to get invisibility cloaks and sneak around taking loving portraits of strangers together? Anyway, sending you these snaps. Love and miss you!
Dear you, another note... remember what I said about being brave when approaching strangers? Every day I practice being that kind of brave. Note: despite all appearances these two were both very sweet. They kind of look alike, don't you think? The man thought so too! Anyways...thank you. Bye for now, Love me
Lost in the stacks at Powell's, Portland Oregon. Post-pandemic, it's so good to be back. Enough said. Love Me.
Yes, I saw the wild beauty, the wilderman erupting out of you behind the curtain, glowing like a promise in the twilight. If I showed this image to you, I believe you would feel the rustling and winds of the forest blooming deep inside.
I heard Joel Meyerowitz, one of my favorite American photographers say "Ambiguity, the difficulty of actually understanding what's there, is an important resource for photography, an important energy for photography." I heard this I felt light crack through and shine all around! The opening to every story starts with ambiguity. Love, Me.
